The Wishermen: The Wishermen are an indie jazz collective from Portland, OR embodying the new sound of contemporary improvised music. Since their conception in the summer of 2010, The Wishermen have created a sound that is distinctive and promises to push jazz in a new direction. Taking cues from jazz, pop, and folk music, The Wishermen have found a unique way of breaking down the barriers of traditional jazz music through their writing and playing. Their thoughtful compositions and overall synergy are met with a clear love and joy for their craft.
At the core of their sound, are the writing styles of Barra Brown (drums) and Grant Sayler (guitar). Their captivating melodies and powerful arrangements mold the contemporary direction of the band. The compositions are skillfully and honestly interpreted by Thomas Barber (trumpet), Nicole Glover (tenor sax), and Chris Friesen (bass).  The Wishermen released their debut album “Drawing Purple Orbits” in the fall of 2012. Containing nine original compositions, Drawing Purple Orbits creates a distinctive blend through beautiful and rhythmic soundscapes and is a model of what The Wishermen have to offer the world of jazz.
