The Tenses -is a Title of a story in the book “The Dream World of Dion McGregor” from 1964. It is a unique book in that the stories are not “Written”, but Transcribed from stories told while asleep!

In 2008 we began a new Live Act using Musical Concepts developed with Smegma. The Tenses are a more intimate ” Live ” experiment ,that is GREATLY INFLUENCED by the room/audience “feel”.  Moving Images that reflect our influences and creative patterns are projected on or behind us. Our creative intent is only one aspect.  We Attempt to collaborate in” The Moment .”

Bren’t Lewiis Ensemble

Based in the rural central valley of Butte County in Northern California, The Bren’t Lewiis Ensemble has been active since the early 1980s, minus a brief 27-year hiatus that ended in 2011 with an appearance at the Colour Out Of Space festival in Brighton, England. No strategy is too oblique for this elastic coterie of weirdos, whether it’s manipulated mass media cut-ups, free improv, repetitive chanting, peculiar covers of foreign infomercials, or field recordings from destinations unknown. One never knows how many of them will perform — could be eight, could be two, could be a wind-up toy monkey bashing tiny cymbals together, could be a mound of butter with a wool blanket thrown over it. They’ve done shows that were loud and cathartic meltdowns, and they’ve done shows that resembled a basement from a hoarder’s daydream, surrounded by self-playing answering machines and the contents of a stolen van owned by the local thrift store. Their instrumentation and methods include everyday objects, pre-recorded loops, found sound, power tools, toys, real instruments, children, animals, and the generally unaware. They’ve released, ahem, “music” on their own Butte County Free Music Society label, as well as Siltbreeze, Chocolate Monk, Freakdom, What The…, Training Bra, RRRecords, Trackshun Industries, Stomach Ache, and, uh, jeez, that’s about it.
