Stevie Richards

Stevie Richards is a Modular Synth Improviser and Saxophonist based in Melbourne , Australia. He was part of the 80’s Indie rock scene in Sydney and developed an appreciation for improvisation and electronic music during this time. As a lifetime musician , he has played for many years across Australia , USA , Europe and South East Asia working in many musical genres including : Noise , Free Jazz , Ambient , Electroacoustic and many more. His 2014 tour of Europe and USA featured DIY Serge Modular synth and collaborations performances with Ben Vida , Nicola Ratti, E-Da (ex Boredoms) as well as many solo performances. He played at Cave 12 in Geneva , Noodlebar in Rotterdam, DA Centre for the Arts in LA , Control Voltage in Seattle and many other venues across US and Europe. Stevie has been involved with Make It Up Club (the worlds longest running weekly night of avant garde and improvised musical performance) in Melbourne for over 16 years as committee member and Sound Engineer. Seven years ago, Stevie began to build DIY Analog Synthesizers , which he now performs on regularly in solo and ensemble contexts. Outside of playing music he is busy developing skills in Audio Production and tutoring Ableton Live to disabled young people in Melbourne , Australia.

Ken Ollis

Ken Ollis is a drummer and composer from Portland, OR. His latest release is entitled “Senses Sharpened”, on the PJCE Records label.  It is comprised of all Ollis’ originals that draw upon influences, and techniques, borrowed from Messiaen, Webern and Tim Berne, along with several original techniques.

In addition to the Senses Sharpened trio, recent projects have included composing and performing two large scale suites of poetry settings (e.e. cummings, and Jane Hirshfield), playing solo concerts, and performing with The Demolition Duo. The Duo has a forthcoming album, also on PJCE Records, and recently received a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council to visit several Universities and give performance/lectures on free improvisation. Ken also regularly performs in collaboration with painters, poets, dancers, and cinematographers. His compositions are featured in the repertoire of the Paxselin Quartet, the Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble, PDX Ensemble, The Chamber of Commerce, and in his own groups.

He currently teaches in the music department at Portland State University and George Fox University, and has taught a multitude of clinics throughout the country. Ken holds an M.M. in Jazz Performance.
