Dead Air Fresheners
Formed in 1996 in a dilapidated mansion on the Eld Inlet near Olympia, WA, the Dead Air Fresheners have since expanded their membership to include at various times masked musicians from Salem, OR to Bellingham, WA. Chance determination is the primary compositional too, though this is often perceived by those outside the group as “improv”. Dead Air Fresheners do not consider their music improvisational, but rather purpose driven yet absent of identifiable ideology. The core laboratory of the group has been in the St. John’s neighborhood of Portland, OR since 2003, but the Dead Air Fresheners still refer to Interstate 5 as their home location.

Xapchyk
The convergence of multi-instrumentalists Kyle Stant, David Morgan and Jerry Soga into Xapchyk occurred by invitation to a recording session arranged, hosted by and including Ju Suk Reet and Jackie Oblivia at the Pink House with Stanley Zappa and the Jooklo Duo in 2016. Xapchyk thrives on pure experimental improvisation from start to “happy ending”. Alternating instruments at any given moment, the trio creates a constantly evolving flow of sound. Three streams of consciousness merging into a single river, layered with harmonic juxtaposition and ever changing nuances. Xapchyk has performed in tunnels around Portland including the 2.9 mile long, USA deepest at 295 feet below the earth’s surface, Robertson Tunnel, as well as inside the abandoned 450 foot tall nuclear cooling towers of western Washington. Xapchyk, pronounced “har-chuk,” derived from a Tuvan rattle made of a dried bull scrotum with sheep knuckle bones inside.
