The Amsterdam-based Michael Moore Quartet is a heady mix of American jazz and European improvised music – with two expat Californians working alongside two products of the vibrant Dutch contemporary music scene. The music is unique – wild and delicate, with occasional Indonesian, Brazilian and African influences.
Saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer Michael Moore has a deep understanding of both the American jazz and the Dutch improvised music traditions. Over the course his 30 plus year career, the American-bred, Amsterdam-based reedist has worked with The Clusone Trio, Fred Hersch, Dave Douglas, Misha Mengelberg, and Rogerio Bicudo, among others. Formed in 2007, his generation-spanning quartet features pianist Harmen Fraanje, bassist Clemens van der Feen, and drummer Michael Vatcher in a setting for Moore to express his personal sound and vocabulary.
“…He’s established himself as one of the finest jazz musicians working anywhere, either in the mainstream or the avant-garde.” – Chicago Reader
